Cycling And The Theory Of Relativity

Albert Einstein on the Theory of Relativity:

I thought of that while riding my bike!

I’ve always said, “Any bike ride is a good ride.” But when my wife read me this quote, my opinion of cycling elevated to a new level.

I’m thinking:

Wow, if Albert Einstein thought of the history-changing Theory of Relativity, I wonder what I can come up with when I ride my bike?

String theory? (Already found.) Newtonian Physics? (That would be Isaac Newton.) Bitcoin? (I should have been riding my bike on the day Bitcoin was invented in 2008 and invested a thousand dollars.)

Right after my wife read me the quote on cycling from Albert, she read the following by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle:

When the spirits are low, when the day appears dark, when work becomes monotonous, when hope hardly seems worth having, just mount a bicycle and go out for a spin down the road, without thought on anything but the ride you are taking.

Unfortunately, that’s the difference between Einstein and me, as my riding, and too often my living, are more “without thought” than “Theory of Relativity.”

Before I get too depressed about missing out on millions by not investing in Bitcoin, I’m pivoting and quoting a verse from Psalms:

Because of you, I know the path of life, as I taste the fullness of joy in your presence. At your right side, I experience divine pleasures forevermore!  Psalm 16:11 TPT

I have been reading, over and over, Psalm 16 this summer.

I read it in NASB95, ESV, and TPT. My favorite version is The Passion Translation. God knows the path of my life and on that path are the pleasures of His presence.

It’s okay that I haven’t thought of a new world-changing theory, haven’t had an apple drop on my head like the legend of Isaac Newton in his discovery of gravity, but I must admit that I’m still hoping for the next Bitcoin-type investment.

I will even tithe the amount earned!

What I have found this summer are the pleasures of God’s presence, in three ways:

  1. Peace of mind
  2. Power in my prayers
  3. Provision for His plans

Increasingly!

Wanting or not wanting to ride my bike has become a noticed symptom of walking or not walking in God’s presence. When I’m good with God, I want to get up early and ride; when I’m stressed, I want to stay in bed.

I ride no matter what I feel like, as I always feel better after a bike ride – it’s the same with prayer and reading Psalm 16.

I’m leaving now to go for a bike ride!
