The Psalms were not written in a historical vacuum. They are testimonies. Stories that are personal and national – of victory, defeat, and confession.
The Psalms have been read for thousands of years, not because they are historical, but because they become real to each generation.
In my life, when I’m overwhelmed or have made a big mistake, a Psalm becomes personal. I read Psalms almost every day, and during times of inadequacy or self-condemnation, a Psalm that I’m reading that day becomes “my Psalm.”
It’s uncanny that a Psalm read randomly that morning, speaks directly to me in a current situation!!! It gives me strength, helps with forgiving myself, and gives me confidence in the victory of the Lord. Over and over, year after year, through my discipline of reading Psalms – I get “my Psalm.”
When a Psalm impacts my life, I memorize it. I have an auto-biographical list of Psalms that I have memorized.
I write Psalms On Saturday because I want you to get “your Psalm.” By reading Psalms regularly, even during your life’s anxieties, the Spirit will say to you…
“Hey, stop, consider, memorize – I’m speaking to you in this Psalm.”
All scripture is God-breathed (2 Timothy 3:16). God wants to inspire you with “your Psalm.” If you are wondering what your Psalm is – I will give you one:

I know that I don’t have the authority of the Spirit in telling you to stop and read this Psalm. But as I write, I’m praying that you’ll feel the conviction of the Spirit and read Psalm 125!!
The book of Psalms testifies to God’s workings in the lives of those writing each Psalm. But Psalms transcends time to be current – Spirit-inspired for today. Read Psalm 125 below, with this week’s events in mind:
Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion, which cannot be moved, but abides forever. As the enemy surrounds Kyiv, so the Lord surrounds his people, during this time of distress.
For the scepter of evil shall not rest on the land allotted to the righteous.
Do good, O Lord, to those who are good, and to those who are upright in their hearts!
Those who follow their crooked ways, the Lord will lead away!
