For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.  Romans 8:18 ESV

At a memorial service, I heard the pastor say, “What is heaven like?” Then he said, “Consider your best thought ever and multiply it 10,000 times 10,000 and you are still not there.”

I “borrowed” this thought and have been using it in my funeral messages for decades.

10,000 times 10,000.

  • On earth, we have three primary colors, out of which all our colors are blended. God does not limit and in heaven, there will be unlimited primary colors. Ten thousand times 10,000 colors that you have never seen before.
  • On earth, humans can hear between 20 to 20,000 Hz. In heaven, there will be no limits. Literally, we will hear the voices of angels. The Bible depicts a scene of 10,000 times 10,000 angels singing praises to God (Revelation 5:11).
  • On earth, we can taste sweet, salty, sour, bitter, and meaty. In heaven, there will be no limitations to what we can taste or the flavors available. One of the first things that we do in heaven will be feast at the Marriage Supper of the Lamb (Revelation 19:7-10). I’m thinking… hmmmhhhh, 10,000 times 10,000 types of chocolate!

We will not be limited by space, time, or distance.

No more cramped airplanes to visit Hawaii – and wait till you visit the renewed Hawaii of heaven. With a thought, we can be sitting on the rings of Saturn and, at sunset, I’m going 1,000 miles into space and literally watch the sun set behind the earth. You should join me.

Heaven will also be known for what is not there – no pain, death, or tears.

We will have a body like Jesus (Philippians 3:21). That means we will be able to see, talk, and hug our friends and family. I really don’t like to hug so that won’t be my favorite thing in heaven.

I will be more interested in learning to play the guitar! Think Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, and Carlos Santana all combined into Pastor Grant.

All of heaven will be revealed to us in an instant when we receive our glorified bodies on the final Judgment Day. It will be like waking up and finding that you went from kindergarten to Ph.D. status in one night – things impossible to understand previously will be mere child’s play.

I can’t wait.

But we must wait, as God desires all to be saved. That’s our business, for now, taking the gospel to all the world.

10,000 times 10,000! Soon.
