An Iceberg Smashes into Evolution

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible (Colossians 1:15-16a, ESV).

Charles Darwin published his book On the Origin of Species on November 24, 1859. The first edition sold out on the day of its release.

The book proposed that we evolved through a process of “natural selection.” Darwin thought that differing species developed toward improvement through a “the strong survive and the weak die” scenario, which then passes positive physical traits to the next generation of tadpoles, wombats, apes, eagles, or you and me.

The underlying principle of “natural selection” is small to large, one cell to two cells, then to tadpoles, then to reptiles — now skipping the billions of years the naturalists claim for this process — to us. But it all begins with a simple cell that evolves into more complex forms of life.

But what if current science now proves there’s no such thing as simple cells? That what we see at a cellular level is more complicated than any of the evolutionary resultant cats, bears, and of course, you and not me, as God created me.

An iceberg has crashed into Evolution …

Above the water line of evolution we begin with two cells self-selecting (yes, it requires two cells, though Chuck Darwin never explains how we get two identical initial cells) and then add billions of years to get our brains, articulated fingers, cognitive awareness, love, the ability to see colors, and the scientists who believe Evolution explains the origin of things better than ex nihilo from God.

Below the water line, we examine those original two cells and find in them the ability to reproduce, incredible machine-like movements, carefully maintained chemical reactions, all powered by sugar (again, Darwin, where did sugar come from?). But let’s go deeper into cellular quantum physics and the ability of the smallest particles of a cell to communicate with each other with no apparent physical connection.

Yes, the Captain Kirk statement of, “Beam me up, Scotty,” exists if you travel far enough under the cellular waterline. We find in the depths of microbiology a biochemical diversity more complicated than Elon Musk’s “drive by itself” Tesla®.

Let’s recognize the iceberg that has crashed into evolution.

Yet, many hard-hearted humans continue to cling to an above water line iceberg, ignoring the vast depth of the existence below. Their arguments get smaller by recent research, like broken off pieces of flotsam floating from the iceberg, upon which their reasoning  gurgles and moans, making lots of noise, deceiving many, without hope, and increasingly pitiful — eventually sinking and drowning in stupidity.

Did you see James Cameron’s movie Titanic? The storyline reveals to Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio the doom of ignoring icebergs. It’s better to repent, acknowledge the existence of God, and avoid the inevitable crash and loss of life.

As the Apostle Paul wrote …

For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse … Claiming to be wise, they became fools (Romans 1:20, 22).

When we see icebergs, it’s not full-steam ahead, but a time of reflection about the glory of God.
