I’m sure those reading this Interruption, considering the title, did not think, “Wow, Pastor Grant knows that much!” But if you did, this would be my “not amused and somewhat sarcastic” response.
Three Things That I Know is an early morning devotional game that I play occasionally when I’m discouraged and need to re-establish a Biblical view of God and myself according to Scripture refuting the muckiness in my soul from living in this world.
I say to myself, “What do I know about God?” “What do I know about myself?” and finally, “What do I know about the future?” When I play this game, my answers change according to my current situation.
Here are my answers from recently playing the Three Things That I Know game.
- What do I know about God?
God is “all” and “always.” God is all-knowing, all-around the world, all-through time, always-loving, always-righteous, always-abundant, always-kind, always-just, always-thinking of me, always creating, always speaking, always sustaining, and always faithful. I feel better thinking of the “all” and “always” of God!
- What do I know about myself?
I was created, anticipated before time, called by God, gifted by God, filled with His Spirit, empowered by God, released into ministry, constantly receive grace and mercy, a son of God, an heir with Christ, I will worship God for eternity, have been justified and sanctified, can do all things through Him, can pray in the Spirit, Jesus is at the right hand of God praying for me, and I AM HIS SERVANT!
- What do I know about the future?
Jesus will return, there will be a rapture, God will be victorious, I will know as I have been known, creation will be redeemed, nothing will ultimately stand against His purposes, evil will be defeated, all living creatures will worship the Living God, and I say, “Come quickly, Lord Jesus!”
I know the things that I have just written, but often His presence seems distant. Then I begin to doubt, thinking, “Where is God?” He is there, and my Three Things That I Know game reminds me of His goodness and greatness.

There is no peace like the peace of those whose minds are possessed with full assurance that they have known God, and God has known them, and that this relationship guarantees God’s favor to them in life, through death and forever.
