Barbara and I are traveling in Portugal. We’ve been in Lisbon for the past week and are in the Algarve Region now along the southern coast. On vacation, we enjoy getting up in the morning for a 3- to 5-mile walk, stopping to be fortified with a cappuccino at the midpoint.
Lisbon is literally up and down, built on hills leading down to walkways along the Tagus River that flows through the city. Morning walks can be strenuous, since our hotel was at the highest location in Lisbon, and confession needed here — sometimes we walked down, had the cappuccino, and rode an Uber® back to the hotel.

The coastal Algarve Region is known for beaches and ocean-carved arches and caves, into which you can paddle rented kayaks. A conversation that I had with Barbara…
Barbara: “We can rent kayaks and paddle to the famous Benagil Cave.”
Grant: “Have you ever kayaked before?”
Barbara: “No.”
Grant: “HHHHMMMHHM!”
I expect peace and harmony in our marriage when we rent kayaks, when she sits in the front of the kayak, while I sit in the back giving her instructions on how to paddle?!

- Next July 9, 2027, Barbara and I will be married for 50 years. Expect a huge celebration.
- We moved our ministry, First Steps Discipleship, to a 501(c)(3) nonprofit with a new board of directors.
