Home Invasions

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour (1 Peter 5:8, ESV).

It’s not a matter of if but when the roaring lion attacks your household.

Fearing home invasions, many today resort to Glocks™ and Ring™ security systems. From my security system, I can check cameras around the house from my desk. I see anyone sneaking about outside, when Amazon™ delivers my recent purchases, and most importantly, when DoorDash™ shows up with dinner!

But how about the devil prowling around? He’s not afraid of pistols and is invisible to security systems. Fortunately, the devil has already been defeated, and with the weapons of our warfare, we’re more than capable of resisting his schemes.

We don’t need to fear, as “He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world” (1 John 4:4).

Let me share one weapon that I use. But first, let’s review a quote by Christian author John White …

You have established a new relationship with the powers of darkness. Whatever you were before you became a Christian – straight, horoscope reader, witch, addicted, pornography, hypocrite, or heretic – you are now the sworn foe of the legion from hell.

Have no delusions about their reality or their hostility. But do not fear them. The God inside you terrifies them. They cannot touch you, let alone hurt you. But they can still seduce, and they will try. They will oppose you as you obey Christ. If you play it cool and decide not to be a fanatic about Christianity, you will have no trouble from them. But if you are serious about Christ being your Lord and Savior, you can expect opposition.

Now, the one weapon that I use: I get up in the morning and arm myself, like a cop going out on a beat or a soldier leaving the base in hostile territory, when I put on the armor of God, saying …

God, as I start the day, I put on the belt of truth and the breastplate of righteousness. I put on the Hoka® sneakers of the gospel of peace, and take up the shield of faith to extinguish flaming missiles of doubt and temptation. I put on the helmet of salvation, proclaiming that Jesus is my Lord, and walk with the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God (Ephesians 6:14-17, OGV [Old Guy Version]).

Speak this every morning. The Bible teaches that the spoken word has power, especially against the spiritual forces that oppose us.

Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits (Proverbs 18:21).

I just mentioned the whole armor of God, and reading the context of this passage (Ephesians 6:10-18), you will find the word “stand” used four times. This word indicates the power already made available to you through your relationship with Jesus.

“Stand” indicates the same power that raised Jesus from the dead and now dwells within you. To stand, confidently speak the armor of God over your life every day.

Then the devil will forsake your house and find another without a Spirit security system.
