We have Pastor Grant. He has white hair that mostly stays in place. He worked in one church for 49 years. The idea that one-on-one discipleship is a necessary foundation for finding freedom in Christ became his passion at an early age.
Pastor Grant is known for his modest intelligence and for irking people with his daily Interruptions.
In the other corner…
We have Albert Einstein. He also had white hair, and most photographs show it to be totally unkempt. He worked in the field of Theoretical Physics his entire life and his equation for special relativity E=mc2 is the most recognized equation in history.
Albert Einstein’s name is synonymous with genius. His theories have led to many breakthroughs in science, technology, and allowed space/time travel in Star Trek.
Can Pastor Grant play basketball against Michael Jordan? Can Pastor Grant throw a football with accuracy like a young Ben Roethlisberger? What happens when Pastor Grant goes up against Albert Einstein? I know you are cringing at your screen in embarrassment.
The tension is great so I will let you know now that I win.
Albert Einstein spent decades trying to postulate a Unified Field Theory (sort of a unified theory of everything) to combine known and seemingly contradictory forces of nature into one explanatory theory. Einstein believed that one theory of physics should be able to hold together the forces of gravity, electromagnetism, and thus mathematically account for everything.
Is your brain tired? Why are we talking about physics at 6 a.m., when Interruptions is sent each morning?
Where Albert Einstein failed, Pastor Grant succeeds. I just needed to read Colossians 1:17:
Jesus is before all things, and in him all things hold together!
Jesus is the Unified Fact of Everything.
Jesus created the universe and holds it together. Science recognizes a sight aspect of physical laws from which we get technology. There is also an unknowable aspect of science, in that things are known to exist or happen that are seemingly contradictory.
Einstein’s theories predicted time slowing down during extreme electromagnetism! What? How do we know that? We also know gravity works but not how.
Faith is the non-scientific, scientific fact of existence. The universe can ultimately be understood by accepting that faith explains the unexplainable.
Be cautious when our leaders today explain that we are going to make decisions by science. Albert Einstein did not discover by science what the Bible simply explains.

A very humble Pastor Grant wins. Not by genius but by believing God’s Word. I don’t like to boast, but right now I am standing up with my arms outstretched in a “Rocky-esque” celebration.
