For a Child will be born to us, a Son will be given to us; And the government will rest on His shoulders; And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.  Isaiah 9:6

All governments rest upon the Prince of Peace.

Power promises peace and prosperity. Power is gained through these promises. Power fails miserably.

Jesus keeps His promises.

Since power is one of the major temptations of the flesh, power gained becomes self-serving. With power achieved, promises no longer needed lie trampled under the politics of self-serving agendas.

Power knows this:  when the promises are made, they chuckle or turn their head while laughing. Governments build upon half-truths. Victors grasp what they can. The promises of power have limited resources.

We aren’t stupid. Yet millions are spent to advertise.

Lies build upon lies, power increases, there are winners and losers – the losers cry foul, the winners smirk. The powerful prosper and no one gets peace.

Except for those who follow Jesus. They get power, peace, and prosperity. They don’t win, they just have to confess. The key to true power, everlasting peace, and eternal security is humility.

Jesus died. Millions have died following Him through the centuries. The path to peace is narrow.

Sooner or later everything will collapse into the camp of those who seek the power and prosperity of this world and those who give their power and prosperity to the Prince of Peace.

I’m rambling.

It’s election day in America. There will be winners and losers. In our political system the winners don’t win for long and the losers bide their time.

The endless cycle of the power game.

There is a higher power. Jesus gave up power to become a suffering servant. No one can take God’s power, but it can be given. You do not earn His peace.

Humility is a power impervious to lies.

You have true power when you follow the Prince of Peace. Jesus keeps His promises to give the prosperity of love, joy, peace, patience, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

The power, peace, and prosperity of Jesus looks different than worldly power. They are not temporary, no election can give them, and they are available to all.

As the Apostle John writes in one of the last books of the Bible:

Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world. The world is passing away and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God continues to live forever.  1 John 2:15-17

Today and tomorrow, I have peace! How about you?

The governments are on His shoulders. Jesus is the Prince of Peace.
