Scientific Proof for God’s Existence

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect (1 Peter 3:15, NIV).

I read a magazine called The Atlantic.

It’s well written, and though I disagree with the conclusions of many of the articles, I want to know what others are saying — especially those who are nincompoops, disbelievers, agnostics, and pagans — but to be fair and balanced, I read their “stuff” while holding my spiritual nose.

With disdain for the content but enjoying well-written articles, I was perusing The Atlantic a few weeks back when I saw this title: “The Evidence That God Exists.” What, a misprint?! My attention perked up, and I skeptically began reading the article, expecting it to be sarcastic, though well-written, drubbing about faith in God.

I was wrong.

The article was a review of a recent book titled God: The Science, The Evidence, The Dawn of a Revolution (which sold 400,000 copies in one year). The author of the review spent too much time explaining (sort of apologizing) for writing about evidence for God, but she eventually wrote this…

This book is part of a burgeoning genre of apologetics that relies on relatively new scientific developments and theories, like quantum mechanics and cosmology, to make an ancient case … that there is incontrovertible proof that a divine power created the cosmos, and that this evidence is mounting.

HHHHMMMHHM!

I quickly read through the book review, went to Kindle® and purchased the book (only $4.81 for Kindle and $5.06 for paperback), then downloaded it. After looking at the cover and trying several times to pronounce the authors’ names — Michel-Yves Bolloré and Olivier Bonnassies — and failing, I began reading the first sentence of the book.

Never before have so many spectacular scientific discoveries emerged in such a short period of time. These discoveries have overturned our view of the cosmos and forcefully put the question of the existence of a creator God back on the table.

Then, the second sentence…

Physics, much like an overflowing river, has surged beyond its banks into the realm of metaphysics. This powerful intersection reveals the necessity for an intelligent creator.

Wow, two powerful sentences about mounting scientific evidence for the existence of God and that physics (think Isaac Newton, Albert Einstein, and many others) has exited the material universe and now makes theoretical proofs for the existence of God.

After the first two sentences, I read the first chapter. And now a confession: I always read the first chapter of a book and then the last chapter, because the first chapter gives the book’s direction and the last chapter the conclusion, and by knowing the direction and the conclusion, I know if I want to read the entire book.

So, I read the last chapter too and loved this quote…

Materialism (not believing in God, just what we see) has always been just a belief, but today it increasingly appears as an irrational belief. Although many people may still choose to embrace it, that choice seems devoid of any rational justification.

I am now reading the entire book and will keep you posted on the new scientific evidence for God in later Interruptions!
