And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him (Hebrews 11:6, ESV).
Hebrews 11:6 states it’s impossible to please God without faith. I want to please God, and it’s not my great deeds or good looks that glorify God; it’s my faith, depending on Him rather than myself.
Considering 2026, my increasing age, and having fewer years to serve, I want to please God with my remaining years. Research indicates that the most productive years of life can be our 70s. This is my desire to live with productive faith in the next decade or two or three.
Ten Lessons Learned I’ve Learned About Faith…
- Taking a step of faith allows God to be God and us to be us — a lot less than God. This is the correct order of the universe.
- Never pray for humility, pray to know and obey your next step of faith, and you will find humility through dependence upon God.
- We resist steps of faith because they typically require us to confront our fears. For example: if we don’t want to go on a mission trip, God might ask us to take a step of faith and go.
- Naysayers will resist every act of faith. They will point out our weaknesses and the task’s impossibility. Jesus said to Peter once, “Get behind me, Satan,” because the great Apostle Peter had become a naysayer to God’s purposes in the life of Jesus.
- Faith always looks forward; fear arises from our past, and doubt consumes the present. We must be forward-thinking to walk in faith.
- Self-condemnation is the greatest enemy of faith. Memorizing Romans 8:1 should be the motto for our faith walk.
- Faith always involves money; those who have developed habits of generosity understand the “provision” economy of God and can more easily obey God’s assignments.
- Faith will be tested through trials, disappointments, and betrayal, but it also grows exponentially when we choose to rejoice rather than become embittered.
- Budgets and the accounting practices of the flesh are not steps of faith! While useful for sustainability, they often find themselves uncomfortable with new wine of the Spirit.
- When we walk in faith, God’s Spirit flows through us. There is no greater joy.
Four Favorite Passages on Faith…
For we walk by faith, not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7).
For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast (Ephesians 2:8-9).
For nothing will be impossible with God (Luke 1:37).
There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:1).
