Confession: I took the title of today’s Interruption (BHAG) from a book by Jim Collins entitled Built to Last. Collins is considered one of the greatest business consultants in America.
In this book, he described successful companies having vision that he called “Big Hairy Audacious Goals.” BHAGs, Collins says, is “pronounced bee-hags.”
The book went to the top of best-seller lists. Still, in most rooms, either live or Zoom, filled with leaders, pastors, or executives, if you shout, “Bee-hags,” those listening will say “Amen!”
Aggressive vision inspires BHAGs!
Jim Collins describes them:
A BHAG engages people – it reaches out and grabs them in the gut. It is tangible, energizing, highly focused. People “get it” right away; it takes little or no explanation.
In the first century, in the first sermon, the Apostle Peter talks about BHAGs – that God would pour out His Spirit and sons and daughters will prophesy, young men will see visions, and older brothers and sisters will dream dreams!
I’ve changed “Big Hairy Audacious Goals” to “Big Heavenly Audacious Goals” (still pronounced “bee-hags”).
Dreams, visions, and prophecy! In the end-times, old and young, men and women will be filled with God’s Spirit.
In 2020, our dreams and visions were COVID-ized (think “anesthetized”) – covered in masks, social-distanced from other believers, and waiting for vaccination. 2021 will not be like 2020. It’s happening now. Having re-thought the very core of “doing church,” Christian leaders are out in public, speaking loudly, and infused with the Spirit.
New BHAGs (“Big Heavenly Audacious Goals”) are coming!
Part of God’s end-times BHAGs is the Great Commission and discipleship, new worship paradigms, a renewed emphasis on one-on-one ministry in church life, and the world getting “Zoomed” in new methods of mission.
The opposite also happens now. Evil will continue to deceive, confuse with faulty terminology, seek control in the name of freedom, and Bitcoin the economy into 666 submission.
Yes, great contrast.
Good vs. evil, flesh vs. Spirit, Hell challenging Heaven! Nothing infuses BHAGs more than end-times conflict – both good and evil goals. So intense evil that the hearts of many will stay anesthetized, cringing indoors, but also, such an outpouring of God’s Spirit, that the gates of Hell will be crushed.
Yet through it all, the good news of heaven’s kingdom will be proclaimed all over the world, providing every nation with a demonstration of the reality of God. And after that, the end of this age will arrive. Matthew 24:14 TPT
