Top Ten Verses to Memorize in 2026

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Happy New Year!

If you asked me what the ten most influential verses in my life have been (You didn’t ask, but I’m answering anyway.), I would list the following:

  1. John 3:16: The most important verse in the entire Bible! It’s more than a sign held up in the stands at football games; it’s the key to salvation.
  2. James 1:21: When I read this verse for the first time almost 55 years ago, it sent conviction to my soul to start memorizing Scripture. Constantly memorizing verses of the Bible has been the most important discipline in my faithwalk.
  3. Romans 13:14: God gave St. Augustine a vision of Romans 13:14 as a means to become righteous (before he was a believer), and hearing the voice of God regarding Romans 13:14 began St. Augustine’s walk toward sainthood. For a lesser saint (OG), this was my first verse to memorize. It’s served me well.
  4. Ephesians 2:8: Keep going over this verse to understand that the difference between Christianity and all other religions is grace. All other religions mean “works,” but our grace is a gift from God.
  5. Romans 12:1: This was my second verse to memorize. Early in my walk with Jesus, I asked Him to never allow me to become lukewarm. I wanted a zeal for my faith from conversion to rapture.
  6. Mark 12:30: My view of Christianity was revolutionized by this verse. I learned that Christianity is relationships, not rules, and that if I loved God with everything in me, my desires would change to His desires, and my actions to His actions.
  7. Matthew 28:19: Leading lots of hippies to know Jesus when I became a believer, I quickly noticed that many soon walked away from faithfulness. Reading this verse, I learned the plan to help Christians grow in Christ — one-to-one discipleship. It has been my singular passion throughout my entire Christian life.
  8. James 1:2: Learning that joy can be found through trials gives the broad perspective of hope needed for enduring difficult times.
  9. John 14:13: The number one word used for prayer in the New Testament is “ask.” Learning to ask specifically revolutionized my praying.
  10. Ephesians 6:12: Understanding spiritual warfare enables us to be victorious in our obedience to Jesus.

Bonus verses:

  1. Romans 8:28: God does work all things to the good to those who love Him and are walking in His calling.
  2. Ephesians 2:10: I marvel at this verse. God has made us for a purpose; we aren’t humdrum but masterpieces.

Verses that I almost listed:

Romans 8:1John 14:16Ephesians 4:29Hebrews 10:25Hebrews 11:6

Ctrl/Click the above verses for a link to the New American Standard Version Bible. This is the version that I began memorizing from 55 years ago, and I still use it in my memorization today. I believe it is the most accurate translation of the New Testament.

Have a blessed New Year’s!
