The Star of Bethlehem on December 21?

There will be signs with the sun and moon and stars.  Luke 21:25

The heavens are speaking about God’s glory, and this expanse reveals His story.  Psalm 19:1

Are there messages to be understood by observing the stars? My thought, if you understand the Creator of the universe, why not?

God can play with stars like we write messages on the sand of a beach. Our words wash away with the incoming tide, but His messages come into alignment and then change with the rotations and vortexes of the universe.

Considering God as eternal and all-powerful in nature, I am sure God fine-tuned the universe allowing stars to sequence and announce important events.

The two most important events in history are the first and second coming of Jesus.

Magi from the east arrived in Jerusalem, saying, “Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we saw His star in the east and have come to worship Him?”  Matthew 2:2

The Magi were a priestly caste of wise men who specialized in astrology, medicine, and natural science. They were from Persia and would know of the prophecies of Daniel (since Daniel was also in the Persian court). The Magi knew about the “seventy weeks of years” prophecy of Daniel (Daniel 9:24-27) for the coming of the Jewish Messiah.

Wow, a prophecy in Daniel that there would be 490 years between the issuing of an edict by the Persian king to rebuild Jerusalem until the arrival of the Messiah!!

Almost the exact number of years.

We write in sand, but God’s penmanship uses stars. Signs in the heavens at the birth of Jesus – how about now in 2020?

On December 21, look for a rare alignment of Jupiter and Saturn; so close together that this phenomenon will look like a double planet. Some call this the Christmas Star or the Star of Bethlehem.

This alignment last occurred 800 years ago.

Is this the Star of Bethlehem that was at Jesus’s birth? Perhaps. Historians say there was a rare conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn that came together and then separated three times in 7 B.C. Given that our calendar is off by several years, this could have occurred at the birth of Jesus.

Another consideration: Some Greek scholars say that the word translated as “star” can also mean “radiance”. The star could have been the glory of God, focused as a star, to announce God becoming man.

God writes with stars while we scribble on sandy beaches.

Numbers 24:17 says that “a star shall come forth from Jacob.” Check! That happened over 2,000 years ago and the Magi followed it to Bethlehem.

Jesus said to look for signs in the stars at the end of times. Don’t overdo this speculation, but is another rare alignment, like the one 2,000 years ago in Bethlehem, happening on December 21, 2020?

2020 has signature marks of the most unique year in history (excepting the year that Jesus was born). Consider a global pandemic that enveloped the entire earth in a matter of days and the “never thought possible” peace treaties between Israel and several Arab nations?

Then church buildings close throughout the world!

Is God writing in stars again?

Are the Father, Son, and the Spirit saying, “Okay, saints, on December 21, I’m letting all of you know that I’m still in charge. Stay faithful and be encouraged because your tribulation is momentary.”

Jesus will return. Nothing wrong with looking to the heavens for signs. He will come back as:

… the Bright Morning Star.  Revelation 22:16
